We're a curious lot

When you say, “I want.” The wanting tends to become the object…not necessarily the thing you think you want.

As we pursue it…the effort, the energy, we expend…the distractions we juggle…the options, the choices…the decision making…it’s huge…it all takes time…lot’s of it.

We have access to every time/labor-saving device known to woman/man, but we still don’t have enough time…is it because we waste it chasing all those wants…the ones we don't really need?

If we eliminate some of them, perhaps we could reclaim some of that time.

Focus on contribution…

Is it time to leave behind the concept of the material world…to help make life a more rewarding experience for all…to focus our efforts on contribution?

Support people who lack what we take for granted, recognize that there is only one place to live, and we’re on it.

We care for our homes, and yet the home of our homes clearly needs some TLC.

A time to question…

It feels as if we’re entering a new era…a time of questioning, listening, generosity…is it time to leave behind the things we no longer need…let go of the familiar, move bravely towards the unfamiliar?

I wonder if technology could stand still long enough to become familiar…can it slow its pace so we can build a better relationship with it…is it time to rethink, redirect our wanting?

It’s hard to let go…

Like many, I have boxes in the basement full of things I couldn’t bear to part with the last time I came across them…

…emotional threads that document my past…yes, it’s hard to let them go…but it’s hard to see a role for them in the future.

Do we need things to be reminded of our past…surely memories are the ultimate memento…they don’t take up space…they’re always with us.

Optimism…

My Grandmother used to be frightened of electricity because, as she often said, “I can’t see it.” Technology is a little like that too…it’s not easy to see.

It feels, more than ever…no matter where we live…where we come from…we’re more alike than different.

There’s a vast collective of people all over the world, enabled by technology, helping to build a world with contribution at its heart…teamwork…supporting the general good…

…one conversation, one idea at a time…

…in a groundswell of optimism.
